Church Bio

The first Worship Service of Mountain View Church of Christ was held on the Lord's Day, September 12, 1965.

The Charter Members were added the following Sunday.,  During this time, there were 97 responses to the invitation. 92 placing their membership by transfer and 5 by confession and baptism.

The congregation was founded to supply the need for a church in the Flowing Wells area of Tucson. The church met temporarily in the Iola Frans School until property was purchased at 4969 N. Flowing Wells Road, now known as La Cañada Road. A frame building was purchased, which was originally a barracks from Davis Monthan.  The Church moved to the permanent site and completely renovated it for the use as a house of worship. The first worship service was held in that building on August 13, 1967. It then served as Sunday School and Fellowship Hall. The Minister's Study and Sunday School Unit were added in March 1969. The Sanctuary was dedicated on April 22, 1973.

George Clark was called to be the first minister of Mountain View Church of Christ. A position he filled faithfully for four years. Following that Earl Varner served as minister from July 13, 1969 until March 1, 1971. William Walton served as minister from August 16, 1971 until October 5, 1975. Rick Eaton, served as minister for eight months from December 1975, until July 7, 1976. Loren Emerson, who has served as interm minister several times, became the full-term minister in July, 1976 until October 1981. Gene Johnson was brought in by Loren Emerson to fill in, then became full-time minister from 2002-2009. In January 2010 Jim Enabnit came to be the minister. Presently he continues to serve as the minister.

Mountain View Church of Christ legally changed its name to Mountain View Christian Church on August 16, 1976. This was done to avoid confusing this congregation with the non-instrumental church in Tucson with the same name.

The congregation voted to sell the back undeveloped acre to pay off the mortgage held by the Arizona Evangelistic Association in Phoenix and it was sold on August 11, 1980. The Mortgage Burning Service was held on October 12, 1980.

In 1986 they moved to present location at 2601 W. Oracle Jaynes Station Rd. because the city wanted to put a street though part of their property. The current property used to be a horse farm, that they used as a church and Sunday School before getting the current building that is here now.  The house on the property was damaged by a storm and the shell of an educational wing was started with the insurance money.

In inside of the education wing was begin on January 9, 2014 by AKM Construction and the final payment was make on June 1, 2014.
